Keith and Carlsbad
ASSISTING REGION'S FIRST RESPONDERS
Keith presents a check for $9,525 to Rick Fisher, president of the Carlsbad Firefighters Association. The funds will go to the CDF Firefighters Benevolent Foundation and will be used to assist four families of firefighters who were severely burned during the Harris wildfire. Keith pledged he would match the donation to the CDF equal to the amount raised during a recent campaign fund-raiser.
SALUTING STUDENT ACHIEVEMENT
The Blackburn Foundation awarded a $1,000 scholarship to Myriam Rodriguez, chosen the overall Youth of the Year for the Boys & Girls Clubs of Carlsbad. Scholarships worth $500 went to Sonia Ramos and Kelly Dittoe, who were honored by the Village and La Costa branches. The presentations were made during the annual Super Star Recognition Dinner.
VOLUNTEERING AT THE ANIMAL SHELTER IN CARLSBAD
One of Keith's passions is spending time with the animals surrendered to the Animal Shelter on Palomar Airport Road. Keith donates about 40 hours monthly to the shelter, where he assists staff with dogs that are neglected or abused.
MEETING WITH COMMUNITY LEADERS
Palomar College Trustee Nancy Chadwick meets with Keith to discuss issues relating to education and community affairs in his campaign for Carlsbad City Council.
SUPPORTING YOUTH PHYSICAL FITNESS INITIATIVES
Keith Blackburn, Carlsbad City Council candidate, presents a check for $22,000 to Jerry Uribe of KidFit USA. KidFit USA is a non-profit physical education and after school karate program designed to enrich the character development and fitness levels of students grades K-8.Blackburn pledged he would make the donation to KidFit USA for double the amount raised during a recent campaign fundraiser.
